Olympe de Gouges is the pseudonym of Marie Gouze (1748-1793) French writer, political activist, defender of women's rights. One of her best-known texts is the "Declaration of the rights of women and citizens"
The quote that appears on the bookmark is the first sentence of the Declaration of the rights of women and citizens: "La femme naît libre et demeure égale à l'homme en droits." ("The woman is born free and remains equal to the man in rights")
